On Monday March 16, 2015 in Xiaofeng Village, Fanghu Township, Huaibin County, Xinyang City, Henan Province, villager Huang Shunfang went to the township health clinic to get treatment for a stomach ailment. After receiving an intravenous infusion for an hour he suddenly dropped dead. His skin turned black-and-blue. His family pointed out that the attending physican, Ru Jinkui, wasn’t licensed to give IV infusions. On the hospital wall it said clearly he’s a neurologist and stomach ailments are not within his scope of expertise.

A netizen who witnessed the incident said: “We went to the hospital to seek an explanation, but the hospital director Qi Zhankun wouldn’t deal with us. He told us that deaths in hospitals is normal. As a hospital director, where are his medical ethics and justice? We went to the Public Security Bureau and the Bureau of Public Health, but they refused to help, where can we go to redress this injustice?

On Friday March 20, 2015, the deceased man’s family carried the corpse in a coffin with memorial wreaths and a banner reading: “Where is justice?” and blocked the entrance to the health clinic, demanding compensation for the man’s death. Hundreds of police arrived and violently attacked the family members. Many were injured, six were arrested, and the corpse of the dead man was seized by the police.

A netizen witness said: “Today the county police department sent hundreds of police to forcibly detain people and take them to the police station! They also beat and injured people. The surrounding masses couldn’t stand to watch any further and shouted: curse these bastards who can’t discriminate.”

Another eyewitness netizen said: “In the afternoon the Huaibin police forcibly seized the coffin and took away the deceased’s family members.”
