On Thursday April 2, 2015 a Christian church cross was demolished in the New Development Zone in Hangzhou Bay, Cixi District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province.

According to local Christians the Hangzhou Bay New Development Zone church is a famous building in Cixi. It was erected a decade ago. It’s very well constructed, but the local authorities deemed it “too tall” and that was the ostensible reason for its demolition. In the past two years its cross was in danger of being demolished many times, but it avoided demolition because the faithful defended it. On the morning of Thursday April 2, 2015, Easter eve, what the faithful had feared for ten months came to pass and the church cross was secretly demolished by the local authorities.

Since the Zhejiang province authorities put into effect a “Three Demolitiions and One Change” policy last year, many church crosses have been demolished. At minimum 422 crosses have been demolished in Zhejiang Province. The repression of Christians by local governments throughout China is unprecedentedly severe. The campaign to demolish Christian edifices is continuing unabated.
