Renowned activist Zhu Chengzhi accompanying Gu Zhijian

Boxun’s correspondent has learned that Jiangsu-native democracy activist Gu Zhijian is in Yunnan Province’s Kunming Red Cross Hospital receiving treatment for liver cancer.

Gu Zhijian’s physician issued a notice that his status is critical. The hospital revealed that Gu has a large tumor in his abdomen as a complication of late-stage liver cancer, and the tumor could rupture at any time.

Human-rights activist Zhu Chengzhi told Boxun that because Gu Zhijian’s daily medical costs exceed several thousand yuan, his friends want to start a fundraising campaign. Gu and his wife oppose this. But they are willing to publicize a bank account for receiving donations.

Previously, Jiangsu activist Ma Yongguo wanted to accompany Gu Zhijian to Kunming to seek treatment, but was blocked by State Security officials from going. So the seriously ill Gu Zhijian had to travel to Kunming alone. Fortunately when he arrived in Kunming, Zhu Chengzhi was able to accompany him.
