Villagers protesting explosions for a quarry are beaten and arrested

Fulai, Dingfu Village, Gaoling Township, Du’an County, Guangxi Province: Villagers demonstrated on Jan. 14 and Jan. 15, 2015 against explosions on a mountain to create a stone quarry. Two were injured by stone quarry thugs.

On Sunday, Jan. 18, dozens of villagers marched to the offices of the Du’an County government, carrying banners reading: “Protect the environment, protect life, prohibit demolition.” Police beat and arrested dozens.

A villager said: On Sunday January 18, 2015 at 11 a.m., as the repression continued and resistance was ineffectual, dozens of villagers went to the county government to peacefully sit-in. They requested that the county government help them, but the result was that the government sent riot police to arrest us all.
