Shiquanjinjia Village, Guixi City, Jiangxi Province:  Local government seized 2,500 mu of mountain forest from villagers. On Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, a large number of police officers entered the village and arrested more than 10 people.

On Tuesday, Dec. 9, more than 200 villagers protested, carrying banners reading: “The government seized our land. Return our land, return our mountain forest.” They marched to the city government headquarters and to the Guixi City Public Security Bureau to demand the release of those arrested. Police responded, and many people were beaten and injured.

A resident said: “The villagers drafted a letter demanding an explanation from the government. But the government refused to accept the letter. Onlookers used their cell phone video cameras to capture the violence. It was horrible to look at.”

Residents said the government also cut off their communications network.
