Chinese media report that on the early morning of Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, Liaoning Province Higher People’s Court Deputy Chief Xu Ansheng died while away on official business in Anshan. The next day, the Liaoning Province Higher People’s Court reported that he had committed suicide.

A spokesperson for the court said that his entourage found him dead in his hotel room. The investigation by the public security office found that Xu Ansheng had taken with him many kinds of anti-depressant medication, ruled out homicide and concluded his death might have been by hanging.

At about noon of the same day, Mr. Ren Zhiwei, Party Secretary (at the rank of department level) of Liaoning Province Federation of the Handicapped jumped from the seventh floor of his work-unit building and died on the spot. Before his death Ren Zhiwei had been in charge of finance work at the Federation.

Ren Zhiwei made his last appearance on the afternoon of Tuesday October 28, 2014 when Liaoning Province Federation of the Handicapped held a meeting at the conference hall on the second floor of the office building to talk about the Party’s mass-line work. Nearly 60 people, including all the Federation’s officials, leading group members, and employees attended the meeting. Ren Zhiwei made a concluding speech on the work of rectification, reform and implementation.

On October 9, 2014 Gansu Province Agricultural Office Deputy Director Yang Kezhong jumped to his death from Tianqing Jiayuan, a residential complex, in Chengguan District, Lanzhou City. As of today, 21 days have passed and there has been no official announcement on this incident. The reason for his jumping from the building is unknown.
Suicide by Chinese Communist Party leaders has become a trend. But it remains a mystery as to how many are real suicides and how many are murders.
