Baotou City, Inner Mongolia, Gaoxin Number One Middle School and Gaoxin Number Two Middle School: On Monday, October 20, 2014, hundreds of teachers began a class boycott, sat in and the school and marched with a protest banner that said, “Return my basic rights as a teachers.” They’ve worked for four years without cost-of-living increases on a monthly salary of only ¥2000 and without social security benefits. They demand the school honor its obligations to them. The class boycott was continuing as of Wednesday,October 22.
The two schools (7th grade-12th grade) have nearly 3000 students. They began attending self-taught classes during the boycott.
