Riot police manhandle women striking for better wages

(BOXUN) Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province: Jindong Paper Industry  LLC increased salaries in all departments except one paper production department of female workers. The corporate personnel department issued a statement: “Accept this or leave.” On Monday October 13, 2014 the enraged women went on strike and demanded an increase in pay. On Wednesday October 15, the strike escalated, with workers carrying banners, marching in protest and blocking the company gate.

Their strike continued until Thursday October 16, 2014 when they were confronted by riot police. Many women were injured and hospitalized.

Jindong Paper Industry has more than 5,300 workers and produces more than 2 million tons of art paper annually. It’s one of the largest individual art paper producers in the world.
