Villagers attack government headquarters, after violent repression hundreds arrested

In Dayuan Village, Xingping Township, Yangshuo County, Guilin City, Guangxi Province the villagers have this month twice sharply clashed with the government over a water source pipe that was damaged during railroad repair. On September 20 at noon, hundreds of villagers carried banners saying: “Yangshuo government enforces the law and violates the law,” “in tunneling through the mountain the government chaotically digs tunnels,” “destroying the water source pollutes the environment,” and “free illegally detained protesters.” They marched to the county seat to protest the government’s destruction of the water source pipe while digging. They also demanded that the government release the villagers detained in the previous days’ protests. The peacefully protesting villagers were violently repressed by police, hundreds of villagers were detained by the police.

On September 5, because the government damaged a water pipe while digging to repair the railway, hundreds of villagers and government personnel clashed. Police and government vehicles were smashed. On Friday September 19, 2014, because several villagers were detained, the villagers surrounded and vandalized the Xingping Township government headquarters, injuring police and government personnel.
