At noon on Monday September 15, 2014 in Huojia County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province, close to 1,000 citizens gathered at the county Public Security Bureau entrance to protest Zhongxin Chemical Factory pollution and clashed with police. That evening at 8 p.m. the local tv station broadcast a government announcement that more than 10 people had been arrested, and called on the rest of the protesters to disperse. According to reports, the Zhongxin Chemical Factory was constructed in 2010. Last year because of an explosion it closed for a year. This protest is because of dissatisfaction it resumed production.

This protest in Huojia County began on Tuesday September 9, 2014 and has continued for a week. On Monday September 15, 2014, althought it was raining, the protesters took to the streets and were met by armed police and riot police and violently repressed. A local netizen said: “The bureau chief was commanding. He had his hands in his pockets and was cursing: Armed police beat people! Arrest people! Seize possessions! Confiscate cell phones!”
