Police threaten to put daughter of imprisoned activist into jail cell with male inmates

Liao Minyue, the daughter of activist Liu Ping, who was sentenced last week, was threatened with jail. Police told her father that a cell full of male inmates was ready for her.

In the last year, the human rights situation has worsened very quickly.

According to a report on Human Rights in China (hric.org), Ping was one of three activists sentenced to prison by the  Yushui District People’s Court in Xinyu, Jiangxi Province on June 19, 2014. The three had been advocating transparency about the assets of government officials. Ping was sentenced to six and a half years for “picking quarrels and provoking troubles,” “gathering a crowd to disrupt order in a public place” and “using an evil cult to undermine law enforcement.”
